The aim of Bowen Therapy (also known as Bowen Technique) is to target the underlying cause or source of many musculoskeletal, neurological, neuromuscular and other health or pain problems found in the soft tissue or 'fascia'. Fascia has become the subject of increasing research and recent studies have shown it to be the largest sensory organ in the body. It is rich in a range of receptors that powerfully influence the body's neuro-muscular physiology in many and complex ways.
The Bowen Technique generates a remedial effect through a number of mechanisms. One of the most important of these mechanisms is the correction of spinal dysfunction. The notion here is a simple one: structural integrity of the musculoskeletal system (and its related structures) results in optimum function of the Central Nervous System. When this occurs there will be symmetry of ‘tension’ or ‘tone’ on either side of the body. When there is dysfunction of the Central Nervous System it will be associated with the development of asymmetrical tensions. These asymmetrical tensions leading to dysfunction of the Central Nervous System have a profound effect on the body and can present in all manner of pain and health problems.
Bowen Therapy is a non-intrusive manipulation of soft tissues and fascia. The Bowen Technique can be used to help with a wide range of injuries and health problems in both humans and horses. Over the years of using this technique I have seen many positive results in both Humans and Horses.
